A visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa) is an official document that the immigration officers stick in your passport. It shows that you meet the requirements needed to enter Canada. A TRV is an official counterfoil document issued by a visa office that is placed in a person’s passport to show that they have met the requirements for admission to Canada as a temporary resident. Holding a TRV does not guarantee entry to Canada.

TRV (Temporary Resident visa)
You can apply for a TRV from inside Canada if you meet all the conditions below:
- you’re already in Canada
- you hold a valid study or work permit
- you want to leave and return to Canada in the near future
- your existing visa is expired or was valid for only one entry
You should apply at least 2 months before you plan to leave Canada.
TRV checklist
- Passport (front, visa stamp page & last page)
- Permit – Study Permit / Work Permit
- Bank balance certificate. Balance recommended - $5000 minimum
- Job Letter (if on work permit)
- Letter of Acceptance – Current College (if student)
- Enrolment Letter – Current College (if student)
- Credit Card detail form (CW office will provide)
- Transcript from current college (if student)
- Transcript from the previous college (if student)
- Passport size photo with white background
- Marriage certificate (if married)
- Completely filled information sheet (CW office will provide)
- Use of representative form (CW office will provide)
After you apply TRV
- An original passport is demanded by CIC to stick to the visa. It will be valid up-to-the validity of your current permit.
- Visa will be stamped inside your passport.
